Click to enlarge. | Remote level control included. | Mount BassLink vertically or horizontally. Click to enlarge. | Designed to deliver low frequencies in virtually any car audio system, BassLink truly has universal appeal. Small in size but big in output, BassLink requires a mere .75 cubic feet of trunk space yet produces enough bass to wake up the neighborhood. BassLink consists of a 10-inch subwoofer, 10-inch passive radiator and a 200-watt Class D amplifier housed in a rigid polymer enclosure, all carefully engineered to work together as a unique, integrated system. The extremely versatile BassLink accepts both speaker- and line-level inputs, and it provides an internal low-pass filter, proprietary signal processing and abundant amplification. The BassLink system features a servo-control circuit that continually monitors the voice coil's position in the magnetic gap and prevents the distortion that occurs when a conventional woofer is overdriven. By integrating cone-excursion information with the instantaneous demands of the music, BassLink can extract loud and deep bass from an enclosure smaller than any before. BassLink includes a fixed, 2nd-order, high-pass filter that eliminates the possibility of over-excursion below Fb, the resonant (tuned) frequency of the vented box. This allows the excursion-monitoring circuit to focus on the excursion at the more meaningful frequencies at and above Fb. The result is a significant increase in bass output. User-adjustable controls allow listeners to set the system's response to achieve optimum performance based on the vehicle's cabin gain or transfer function. These controls include: a 0- or 180-degree phase switch; a continuously variable electronic low-pass filter that is adjustable between 70 and 100Hz; variable input sensitivity; and Bass EQ that provides for adjustments between +3 and -6dB. BassLink's frequency response in a typical vehicle is 20 to 100Hz (+/-3dB), but this varies according to the vehicle and user adjustments. At maximum gain, the system can accept inputs as low as 250mV. BassLink can accept up to four channels of input--to provide nonfading bass--either from line-level signals through four RCA jacks or from high-level signals through a pair of Molex connectors, allowing BassLink to be easily connected to OEM systems. If using the speaker-level inputs, an audio-sense circuit will turn on the amplifier whenever a signal is present. If the RCAs are used, a 12-volt, remote-turn-on lead is required. The system has barrier strip connections for power, ground and remote turn-on. Love this sub! March 3, 2010 S. Debisingh I installed this little sub in the hatch of my 2008 VW GTI.
It takes up very little space and it sounds great!
It's connected with my factory navi, and the bass is enough to rock the whole car.
Love it.
Does exactly what I hoped it would -- deliver the strong bass my factory speakers just couldn't February 19, 2010 Brian Patrick (Chicago IL) The key to appreciating this product is to have realistic expectations. It will NOT rattle the windows of nearby houses. It will NOT notify everyone within 200 feet that you're listening to bumpin' tunes. It will NOT give your sound system "street cred" or whatever. (Do people still even use the phrase "street cred"? Eh -- I'm too old to care any more.) What it WILL do is deliver the clean, strong, deep bass that your factory speakers won't.
To be honest, I was pretty satisfied with the sound delivered by the factory Bose system in my car, at least at low speeds. The problem is I have an aftermarket exhaust that gets a little loud at high speeds, and when I turned up the stereo to try to overcome the exhaust, the speakers would start working a little too hard and the low frequencies would get too muddy.
That's where the Basslink steps in. By using the frequency filters on my head unit (both high-pass and low-pass) to cut out the lows from the factory speakers and send it all to the Basslink, I can now crank the stereo without overdriving the factory speakers; meanwhile the Basslink jacks out thumpin' bass without breaking a sweat at volumes that would cause the factory speakers to strain. Net result: much better and more filled-out sound at volumes high enough to overcome my annoyingly loud exhaust than I was able to achieve with the factory speakers alone.
And the best part is that it takes up less room in my trunk than two bottles of antifreeze. It's mounted upright and tucked away in a corner, barely even noticeable, and I still have about 95% of my trunk space. Plus there's no amp taking up extra space either -- the Basslink a complete unit, amp built in.
So if you need something to wake your neighbors up in the middle of the night thinking their roof is about to cave in, the Basslink won't work for you. But if you just want something that can punch out the low frequencies with extra authority to "fill out" your factory system, you will not be disappointed with this space-saving little bruiser.
Don't recommend February 7, 2010 J. Schlee (NC) This thing was perfect in my Jeep. Sounds AWESOME while it worked. Had it in the Jeep for over a year, and like so many others, the amp blew. This makes the thing useless. You have to get the amp replaced (~$90 at a certified repair place) or bypass the internal amp with a different amp. Like I said sounded great when it worked. I have a Wrangler, so no trunk to penetrate, therefore I barely had it turned up ever. It was always set real low, and had a ton of bass.
For a throw away component, it is way overpriced.
Basslink February 6, 2010 Alan Tran (Reno, Nevada) This amplified subwoofer is is space saving & yet good bass for my Subaru Legacy Spec.B 2008. Highly recommended! Adjustable knob is helpful for those who want less/more bass for certain songs.
Incredible sound February 4, 2010 Thomas P. Gray (Los Angeles) This SW is more than fine. Easy to install, sounds great, terrific value... I have no regrets about this unit, and if I have to buy another, this is the first one that I'll seek out. Bass is great, all the boom-boom I could ask for. Mounted in the trunk of a 06 Accord EX.
